Our Annual Boom Sales are taking place the first week of May. Last year was a big success and we are hoping for even better sales this time around. During our Broom Sales we sell brooms from a local company that specializes in hiring those with sight and hearing impairments.

The handmade brooms are quality products meeting the standards of any production line brooms you may have seen at your local store. The great thing here is that the sales of these brooms goes towards sight and hearing impairment education and for devices to assist with such impairments.

This is one of our major fundraiser's for the year and all members of the lions club are out in force promoting the sales of these great brooms. This is a great opportunity to get the word out about the causes we support and to get to know any new members of our community. We look forward to meeting you.

The familiar white cane with a red band at the bottom is used by blind and visually impaired persons in many countries. This simple device was invented in 1930 by Lion George A. Bonham of the Peoria, Illinois, USA, Lions Club. Today, blind and visually impaired people throughout the world use Bonham's invention.

Instruction in the use of white canes is taught by schools for the blind. This includes explanations of  "white cane laws" which state that motorists must yield the right of way to the blind and visually impaired. During Our White Cane Days we raise money to purchase Sight Canes and other devices that the sight impaired would need to lead a more happy productive life within the community. We also take the chance to educate the public in White Cane laws

The Poquoson Seafood Festival is a great time for us here at the Poquoson Lions Club. During this three day event thousands of people from the surrounding community are drawn to Poquoson for its famous seafood.

The Lions Club takes this opportunity to increase the educational awareness of some of its causes. We usually set up two booths to educate and collect donations. This year we plan on selling Mints and hosting a Putting booth.

We are hoping for great weather and a fantastic turn out this year. Stay tuned for additional information as it comes available as we approach the time for the festival.
